FOLGERS Jingle Contest 2013
So just for fun I entered the Folgers Jingle Writing contest in 2013, and was selected as a finalist. The tune was something I had been playing with and I came up with the lyrics in an airplane somewhere over Tennessee and wrote them down on a napkin. At the last minute I shot the requisite video with help from Nat, edited it together in Final Cut studio, and sent it off. I actually shot it on a circa 1996 Sony Handycam, mini DV style. (This was pre-Canon 6D,etc.)
Folgers hired a film crew to visit all of the finalists across the country, and do a little bio video for each of us. This was super fun (and weird) to have a film crew of seven people follow me around for a few days and record everything I do. We got to be good friends with the crew, and shared some good food and laughs.
I didn't win the $25,000. The hipster dudes from appalachia won. I still think I could have won if I had a better video, or had a hipster beard (or both). This silly jingle has gotten more attention than everything else I've ever written, and took about 1/100,000th the time/effort/skill. So there's that. Anyway, it was a good time.
