In wine, the term "Grand Cru" (French for 'Great Growth') is not technically a classification of quality per se, but is intended to indicate the potential of the vineyard or terroir. It is, however, sometimes used to denote a limited release of a product (particularly champagne, beer, wine, chocolate, whiskey and cognac) or to celebrate a special occasion such as an anniversary. GRAND CRU attempts to express this idea musically, with as much pomp and self-aggrandization as possible.
